<h1 class="ql-align-center"><strong style="color: rgb(230, 0, 0);">MATSYA-6000</strong></h1><p class="ql-align-center"><br></p><h3><strong>Context&nbsp;</strong></h3><ul><li class="ql-indent-1">In order to explore the potential of the seabed, the <strong>National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) MATSYA 6000 </strong>will dive 6,000-meter into the Indian Ocean under the Samudrayaan mission.</li></ul><h3 class="ql-align-justify"><strong>About&nbsp;</strong></h3><ul><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">Samudrayaan Mission is aimed to develop a <strong>self-propelled manned submersible to carry three human beings to a water depth of 6,000 meters </strong>in the ocean with a suite of scientific sensors and tools for deep ocean exploration.</li><li class="ql-indent-2 ql-align-justify">It is India’s first unique manned ocean mission and is a part of the Rs 6000-crores Deep Ocean Mission.</li><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">The experts will be sent in a manned submersible vehicle called<strong> ‘MATSYA 6000’.</strong></li><li class="ql-indent-2 ql-align-justify">It is a spherical, titanium hull (made by ISRO) equipped with life-support, capable of floating underwater and collecting soil and rock samples from the seabed with attached robotic arms.</li><li class="ql-indent-2 ql-align-justify">It is a 6000 m depth-rated <strong>Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).</strong></li><li class="ql-indent-2 ql-align-justify">This vehicle is being designed and developed by the <strong>National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.</strong></li><li class="ql-indent-2 ql-align-justify">It has an endurance of 12 hours under normal operation and 96 hours in case of emergency for human safety.</li><li class="ql-indent-2 ql-align-justify">The submersible can on-board a 3-person crew and dive deep at 6,000 meters.</li></ul><h3 class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Significance&nbsp;</strong></h3><ul><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">It will also boost the Central government's vision of<strong> 'New India' that highlights the Blue Economy</strong> as one of the ten core dimensions of growth.</li><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">Manned submersible provides a feel of direct physical presence for researchers and has better intervention capability.</li><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">With the launch of ‘Samudrayaan’ in October 2021, <strong>India joined the elite club of nations such as the US, Russia, Japan, France, and China to</strong> have niche technology and vehicles to carry out subsea activities.</li></ul><h3 class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Deep Ocean Mission</strong></h3><ul><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">By the <strong>Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES)&nbsp;</strong></li><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">It seeks to investigate the deep ocean for resources, develop deep-sea technology for long-term ocean resource management, and support the Indian government's Blue Economy Initiatives.</li></ul><h3><strong>National Institute of Ocean Technology</strong></h3><ul><li class="ql-indent-1">Established in 1993 as an autonomous society under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), NIOT is based in <strong>Chennai</strong>.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">The major aim of starting NIOT was to d<strong>evelop reliable indigenous technologies to solve various engineering problems </strong>associated with harvesting of non-living and living resources in India’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).</li></ul><p><br></p><h1 class="ql-align-center"><strong>PRELIMS NOTES:</strong><a href="https://www.sunyaias.com/subscription-details/prelims-2023-sunya-notes-current-affairs" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 102, 204);"><strong>CLICK HERE</strong></a></h1><p class="ql-align-center"><br></p>
