<h1 class="ql-align-center"><strong style="color: rgb(230, 0, 0);">Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI)</strong></h1><p class="ql-align-center"><br></p><p><strong>CONTEXT:</strong> Recently the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the apex anti-smuggling intelligence and investigation agency functioning under the aegis of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), celebrated its 65th Foundation Day at New Delhi.</p><p><br></p><h3 class="ql-align-justify">About </h3><ul><li class="ql-align-justify">The Union Minister for Finance released the <strong>“Smuggling in India Report 2021-22” </strong>which analyzes trends such as Smuggling of Gold, Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, wildlife etc., Commercial Frauds and International enforcement operations &amp; cooperation.</li></ul><p class="ql-align-justify"><br></p><h3 class="ql-align-justify">DRI</h3><ul><li class="ql-align-justify">The DRI is the apex anti-smuggling agency of India,<strong> </strong>working under the<strong> Central Board of Indirect Taxes &amp; Customs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.</strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify">Establishment - 1957</li><li class="ql-align-justify">HQ-<strong> New Delhi</strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify">It is tasked with detecting and curbing smuggling of contraband, including drug trafficking and illicit international trade in wildlife and environmentally sensitive items, as well as combating commercial frauds related to international trade and evasion of Customs duty.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">The DRI has also been designated as the lead agency for the<strong> Anti-Smuggling National Coordination Centre (SCord).</strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify">DRI enforces the provisions of the <strong>Customs Act, 1962</strong> and over fifty other allied Acts including the Arms Act, NDPS Act, COFEPOSA, Wildlife Act, Antiquities Act etc.</li></ul><p class="ql-align-justify"><br></p><h1 class="ql-align-center">PRELIMS NOTES:<a href="https://www.sunyaias.com/subscription-details/prelims-2023-sunya-notes-current-affairs" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(102, 163, 224);">CLICK HERE</a></h1><p><br></p>
